"I am so excited to finally meet you, " was the first words Kayla said to me as I walked into her bridal suite at Lied Lodge Conference Center. I was so excited to finally meet her too. After an 16 month long engagement between the two of us, emails back and forth, phone calls and an awesome "online relationship" it was so good to finally meet her and her sister (who was our match-maker) in the flesh. The truth is many of my clients book me before ever meeting me. And Kayla and Nick were no exception. They booked me from their sweet town of Nebraska City, Nebraksa (1300 miles away!) all because Amber, Kayla's sister, had found me on Facebook! Social media never ceases to amaze me! I was overjoyed to take on this traveling wedding, especially after being told it was going to be held at a Tree Farm! Even though it was my first time ever meeting the Milner's and the Moyer's they all treated me like I was a long lost friend they had been waiting to meet! That is what is so cool about this profession, you never stop meeting genuine, lovely, and amazing "strangers" that feel like family!
Kayla and Nick's wedding was PURE eye candy as a photographer. I mean, how did I get so lucky? A beautiful vintage-rustic venue? Perfect details in shades of pink, navy, and grey? An apple orchid? Lovely bird cases, peonies, stringing lights, and chandeliers? And all the charm you could stand for a couple that deserved every single bit of beauty. But what's more than those perfect little details were the two people that made it all come together- or rather the meaning of it all. They were just as sweet, kind, and lovey dovey in person as they looked, always wanting to try my crazy little poses and trusting me every step of the way. I had such an awesome day working with them! And despite the 95+ degree day, everything went flawlessly and magically. I am so glad these two opted with doing all of their pictures before the ceremony! We had TONS of time to do so many different set ups in different locations. From the vintage "Plant Trees" venue to the apple orchids, the nature trails and the vacant barn, one thing is certain: these two won't know what to do with all of these images! Amber (Kayla's big sister/maid of honor) suggested Kayla and Nick wallpaper, I am thinking she may be onto something.
Some of my favorite highlights of the day? How the rain fell for about 15 minutes, ever so gently, just calming down the harsh light and heat and it just so happen to give me some beautiful dismal shots of Kayla. Another was the groomsmen- how you can pack so much personality and hilarity into a small bunch of guys, I just don't know. I laughed all-day-long. The Apple Orchid scene was just unreal gorgeous to me, I still dream about it. It was just perfect- oozy with warm sunlight and colors you see in an oil painting. But my favorite moment? This consisted of Kayla's sister rapping her speech to her little sister. The love of these two siblings were so real and so alive, and it just melted my heart. I wish every little sister had a big sister like Amber, we would all be the happiest girls in the world! Amber was a HUGE part of Kaylas day- from booking vendors to styling and decorating, she was the most amazing help ever. So thank you Amber for rocking at being a person!
Kayla and Nick; You are adorable, photogenic, and some serious real life sweetie pies (sweeter than that delicious rhubarb jam!) I am still giddy after working with you two. I am still smiling seeing your images. And I am in awe struck that this is my reality, that I get to give you guys a little piece of my talent for you to enjoy for years and years and years to come. I wish you guys all the love the world offers and a future that's brighter than your smiles! I can't wait to see you again, Amber's already planning your little brother's wedding as we speak...
